Everyone is making Allegiant covers so I decided to go a different direction.

Insurgent

by Veronica Roth

This book was not Divergent, and not in a good way.

It’s awful to wait a year for a book and hold your hopes SO high.  I was all involve in #TeamDauntless and the whole fandom hype too. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a bad book, but I thought I’d be signing onto goodreads.com and giving it a big ol’ five star.  I gave it three, and I feel like an awful person for it.  In all fairness, I am going to read it again when I have a chance, but in the greater scheme of things, it just wasn’t there for me.  It was all the characters’ fault.  The writing was lovely and the plot for the most part was fantastic, but the characters literally drove me mad the entire book.  And it’s a long book.  Over 500 pages long (the ebook is only about 300 though due to formatting.)  There were a couple OMG moments, which I love in books, but one of them just made me again — angry at the characters.  And I’m not saying I need to love all of the characters, because obviously books need villains.  It’s hard to explain and completely spoilerish, so the rest of the review is under the cut.

Slowly but surely

Slowly but surely

Oh the edits.  I know the saying writing is rewriting, but it doesn’t really hit you until you really go through it.  The contradictions I find.  The wait, she’s in the completely wrong mood moments.  Have I mentioned I still haven’t written the end?  No, that’s not true.  I have the last like, page.  It’s a doozy.  It’s one of those endings where the reader will be like WHAT THE F I HATE YOU HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO ME?  Which, as I reader I equally hate, but now being on the other end, I kind of love it.

I haven’t read anything new (re-reading HP lately) because Insurgent comes out in a couple days and I don’t want to be in the midst of something new and stop it.  I guarantee I will read Insurgent in a day.  Not even in a day, I’ll have it finished before I go to the barn at 2pm.  Then City of Lost Souls comes out two weeks later and gah, I need me some shadowhunter goodness.  And somewhere in between all of that, I’ll keep on trucking with this mess of words I call my novel.

I can’t stop myself!

I can’t stop myself!

Team Dauntless. Seriously.

Dauntless - Veronica Roth - Insurgent - Divergent

But seriously, how about I actually post about something other than show off my ah-maz-ing procrastination skills.  But who ISN’T excited for Insurgent?  SQUEEEEEEEE!  And then two weeks later City of Lost Souls! SQEEEEEEEEEEE again! And everyone seems to like my typography skills so much.  The first Dauntless post got about 250+ reblogs on my tumblr!  The other significantly less, but still well over 50.

The only reading I’ve done is Harry Potter. Again.  This is mainly because of the opening of Pottermore, though I’ve been in since beta (I’m Gryffindor by the way — Dauntless? Gryffindor? Not surprised!). I re-read my favorite books a lot, but Harry Potter is kind of a different beast since most series are three, maybe four books long.  But seven. It’s a process…especially since they are all lengthy.  I’m up to the Half-Blood Prince, but I’m going to leave the last two until after C O A C H E L L A.  I leave tomorrow at four and return sometime Monday morning.  I won’t be reading or writing, but I promise to dance around like an idiot.

Until I write again, adieu.
